Class I, Bio Safety Cabinet

Sterile Tech Class I Biological Safety Cabinets provide personnel protection for handling of low risk aerosols and particulate matter. Room air enters the Cabinet, flowing past the operator into the work access opening providing an air barrier which minimizes contaminants generated within the cabinet work zone from migrating into the room. The air flows through the cabinet carrying contaminants with it, exiting through a HEPA filter as a Class I Cabinet
The Class I Biological Safety Cabinet (BSC) provides personnel and environmental protection, but no product protection. It is similar in air movement to a chemical fume hood, but usually has a limited fixed work access opening and the exhaust air must be HEPA filtered, to protect the environment. The Class I BSC is designed for general microbiological research with low- and moderate-risk agents. In addition, the work zone, which is typically much smaller than a chemical fume hood, is geared to working with biological whose process/procedures dictates the use of moderate amounts of volatile liquids, that are not suitable for recirculating cabinets

Class II, Type A1, Bio Safety Cabinet

Sterile Tech Class II, Type A2 Biological Safety Cabinets 70% Recirculated / 30% Exhausted has inflow to protect the operator and a clean HEPA-filtered down flow to protect the product on the work tray as shown below. Because of dual protection offered Class II, is the widely used cabinet in the industry

The old design Class II BSC, referred to Class II Type A1 by NSF 49:2002 standard, has the positively pressured contaminated plenum bordering the ambient air. This is a dangerous design because if the plenum wall sealant fails, the contaminated air will be pumped outside to the lab environment. It is highly recommended that the user choose the Class II Type A2 cabinet that has the positive pressure contaminated plenum surrounded by negative pressure provided by the blower. In this case, if the plenum wall is punctured or the HEPA filter gasket fails, then the leakage will be pulled back by the blower and will not escape outside..

Class II, Type A2,Bio Safety Cabinet

Sterile Tech Class II, Type A2 Biological Safety Cabinets 70% Recirculated / 30% Exhausted offer personnel, product, and environmental protection to obtain optimum control over product quality while reducing the potential for exposure of both product and personnel to airborne biological or particulate chemical agents in low to moderate risk-hazard research and drug preparation or product operations,

If the user allows recirculation of chemical fumes inside the work zone, then a Class II Type A2 can be connected to a thimble duct exhaust collar.

Thimble duct means that the collar has perforations to allow outside air to be pulled in as opposed to hard duct that has no holes. The exhaust collar is then connected to a duct tube connected to an external blower. Why thimble duct must be used instead of hard duct? The Class II Type A2 can create its own balanced inflow and down flow using its internal blower. If this cabinet is ducted and the external blower suction is too strong, then the inflow become too strong and down flow become too weak, causing product protection failure. Therefore, the thimble duct must be used, where the extra suction will draw the air from the room and not from the cabinet’s plenum.

Class II, Type B1, Bio Safety Cabinet

Sterile Tech Class II, Type B1 Biological Safety Cabinets exhausts 70% /30% recirculated of airflow. The B1 Bio safety Cabinet may be used for work treated with minute quantities of volatile toxic chemicals and trace amounts of radionuclide’s required as an adjunct to microbiological studies if work is done in the direct exhausted portion of the cabinet, or if the chemicals or radionuclide’s will not interfere with the work when recirculated in the down flow air.

Class II, Type B2,Bio Safety Cabinet

Sterile Tech Class II, Type B2 Biological Safety Cabinets feature down flow air drawn from within the laboratory or outside air. No down flow air is drawn from the cabinet exhaust air. All down flow and inflow air is exhausted through a HEPA filter without recirculation within the cabinet. All contaminated ducts and plenums are maintained at negative pressure. The Type B2 Biological Safety Cabinet may be used for work with volatile toxic chemicals and radionuclide’s as required as adjuncts to microbiological studies.

Class II Type B2 biological safety cabinets provide product, operator and environmental protection and are suitable for work with trace amounts of toxic chemicals and agents assigned to biological safety levels II. In a Class II Type B2 cabinet, all inflow and down flow air is exhausted after HEPA filtration to the external environment without recirculation across the work surface.

If no recirculation of the chemical fumes is allowed, then a Class II Type B2 cabinet with hard ducting shall be used. The cabinet’s internal blower only provides down flow and the inflow is created by external blower. This cabinet is difficult to install and maintain because the external blower must be manually balanced with the internal blower, or else either the operator or product protection will fail.

Class III, Bio Safety Cabinet

Sterile Tech Class III biohazard safety cabinets offer the highest level of product, operator and environmental protection from infectious/bio hazardous aerosols and are suitable for microbiological work with agents assigned to biological safety levels 1, 2, 3, or 4. Designed for an absolute level of containment, they are frequently used for work involving the deadliest biohazards, bacteria, viruses and microorganisms.

Designed around your Maximum Containment Research:

Sterile Tech customization process starts at defining your specifications needed for your BSL-3 application. Our Class III Bio safety Cabinets offer maximum protection against pathogenic agents ensuring a gas tight working environment. Consider Sterile Tech Class III Glove Boxes when working with infectious agents, chemical carcinogens, aerosols, or high concentrations of low to moderate risk agents in microbiology, bacteriology, virology, culture analysis and more.

How it Works: The Class III Bio safety Glove Box operates at a vacuum relative to the room with the service compartment under a slight vacuum. Room air enters the cabinet through a pre-filter into the service compartment where it is drawn through an inlet HEPA filter. Air exits the inlet HEPA into the work zone through a distribution manifold to promote a uniform flushing of the work zone to constantly purge the interior of contaminates. The contaminated air is drawn to the top of the work area where it is exhausted into the facility exhaust system. The interior of the cabinet is maintained at negative pressure by an optional motor blower or plant exhaust system.

Monolithic Pressure Tight Construction: A single shell, high grade stainless steel, fully welded cabinet eliminates potential leaks that may occur through failures of gaskets and cabinet seams.
